The PlayStation 5 has had an impressive first year. Following a solid launch with games like Demon's Souls, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and Astro's Playroom, 2021 saw an assortment of PS5 games that made owning the console early worth it.

If you want to play the best PS5 games in 2022 then you’ve come to the right place. Our guide to the best PS5 games is the product of many happy hours and in the case of some of the more difficult PS5 titles, quite a lot of swearing too

10. Sackboy: A Big Adventure

A fun, charming platformer pays off in a delightful adventure that can be played both solo or co-op. A spinoff of the LittleBigPlanet series, it follows Sackboy, and features 3D platforming as opposed to 2.5D in previous entries.

9. Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy nicely balances a goofy, action-filled adventure with some genuinely heartfelt story moments, and the choices you’re given can add some surprising personal twists to your particular playthrough.

8. Hitman 3

Agent 47 returns as a ruthless professional in HITMAN 3 for the most important contracts of his entire career. The final entry in this arc of the Hitman story, Agent 47 is the most inventive in the series to date, where anything and everything can be used in your assassination mission. Hitman 3 is full of fun and fascinating ideas, many of which play with the concepts underpinning the last four years of Hitman levels.

7. Assassin's Creed Valhalla

This will stand as one of the great entries in the Assassin's Creed series, thanks to complicated hero Eivor, the brutal combat, and the wealth of customisation options that cover everything from your fighting style to your face tattoo. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is a big, bold, and ridiculously beautiful entry to the series that finally delivers on the much-requested era of the Viking and the messy, political melting pot of England’s Dark Ages.

6. Returnal

Like other roguelikes, the moment you die in Returnal, the loop begins again, with our heroine Selene trying to figure out exactly what's going down on this alien planet. Returnal is constantly unsettling and consistently challenging. Its mysterious story and demanding action feel intense, urgent, and fresh. The fast-moving combat manages to appear incredibly daunting, bordering on overwhelming, without ever actually becoming insurmountable.

5. Deathloop

The more you play and experience the loop, the more you learn, and the more you understand about this strange little time-looping world. Deathloop is a first-person time-looping murder/puzzle game where time has become both meaningless and everything. Player character Colt wakes up, with no memory, on the beach of a strange island. The island is experiencing one day on repeat, with everyone — except Colt (and another character) — performing the same actions. Colt wants to break this cycle and escape.

4. Demon's Souls

Demon's Souls is the must-have PlayStation 5 exclusive as the showstopper of the launch lineup. Arguably one of the best entries in the Souls series was the first game, Demon’s Souls. Released back in 2009 it became the dream import game for middlecore hipsters, as the Asian release was fully localized in English and was region free. Now it has been remade for the PlayStation 5 and it’s finally come into its own.

3. Spider-Man: Miles Morales

The next generation of Spider-Man, both technically and narratively, is packed with comic book adventure, heart and soul, and plenty of that oh so satisfying swinging through New York. Miles Morales may just be finding his footing as a superhero, but his first solo game proves developer Insomniac has comfortably hit its stride as it converts its stand-alone hit into a series.

2. Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is the best-looking video game ever made. At its core, Ratchet & Clank is a relatively familiar action-shooter. Insomniac does an incredible job at keeping things fresh with its pacing and the variety of interactions and goals. But it’s the presentation that does most of the lifting here.

1. Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut

Our no. 1 pick is the most anticipated game for the PS5 - Ghost of Tsushima. Stunning visuals, good gameplay mechanics and a bold storyline. The Director's Cut adds the new Ghost of Tsushima: Iki Island expansion, which is a fantastic new side-story set in an entirely fresh location. You'll learn more about hero Jin, meet new friends (and foes), and be able to engage with some new side content - including adorable critters. It's quickly solidified itself as one of the best PS5 games.
